Douglas Wayne Owens, Sr. born July 4, 1956 departed this life on Saturday January 6, 2024 at his residence in Hazard, Kentucky being 67-years old. Doug was born in Hazard, Kentucky the son of the late Elmer Owens and the late Mavis Jean Cornett Owens. Other than his parents, Doug was also preceded in death by his Brothers, Bert Valentine, Jr. and Paul Russell Owens.
Doug was an electrician and a foreman in the coal mining industry for 30 years. He worked hard, but he also played hard. He was an avid traveler. Always down for a road trip with destination unknown which led him to see all 48 continental United States. Doug had a great sense of humor, he loved to draw, appreciated a good book and had an impressive album collection.
Douglas Wayne Owens, Sr. leaves the following relatives to cherish his memory: Loving & Devoted Wife of 50-years, Phyllis Owens of Hazard; Son, Douglas Wayne Owens, Jr. & Elizabeth of Florence, KY; Daughter, Candice Bowen & Clyde of Frankfort, KY; Sisters, Sandra Whitaker of Big Creek, Linda Marion of New Hampshire, Connie Higdon of Winchester, KY, Rhonda Shelton of Winchester, KY; Grandchildren, Dr. Holly Caudill & Johnathan, Hannah Hall & Zack, MaKayla Owens, Lexie Bibb & Sara, Colton Bowen, Kayden Johnson; Great-Grandchildren, Brayden, Ella, and Ruby; Faithful Four Legged Friend, "Bo Bo'. A host of Nieces, Nephews, and other Relatives and Friends survive.
Visitation for Douglas Wayne Owens, Sr. will be conducted on Thursday January 11, 2024 at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home from 11:00 till 1:00 P.M. A Memorial Service will follow on Thursday at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home. The Interment will follow in the Jent Cemetery located in Carcassone, Kentucky. Serving as Pallbearers will be Doug Owens, MaKayla Owens, Clyde Bowen, Johnathan Caudill, Zack Hall, and Phillip Morgan.
