Gillis Glen “Doc” Pennington born December 21, 1953, in Hazard, Kentucky departed this life on Wednesday – November 4, 2026, at his residence in Wooton, Kentucky being 73-years old. Gillis was the son of the late Isaac Pennington and the late Kathleen Pennington Wells. Other than his parents, Gillis was also preceded in death by his Stepfather Archie Wells, Wife Wanda Pennington, Son, Marty Pennington, Brothers, James Douglas Pennington and Jessie Gary Pennington.

Gillis was a retired coal miner, a devout Christian and man of God. Gillis was a kind and friendly man who never saw a stranger.

Gillis Glen “Doc” Pennington leaves the following relatives to cherish his memory: son, Eric Pennington of Wooton, KY; brother, William “Ike” Pennington & Dorothy of Smilax, KY; sisters, Marie Dossett & Don of London, KY and Angie Osborne of Thousandsticks, KY; grandchildren, Dirk Pennington, Holly Pennington, Tristen Pennington, and Adin Pennington; great-grandchild, James Mitchell Ray Cornett. A host of nieces, nephews, other family & friends survive.

Visitation for Gillis Glen “Doc” will be held on Saturday – November 7, 2026, at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday – November 8, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Alfred Smith officiating. The Interment will follow in the Day Cemetery located in Smilax, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made towards funeral expenses.
