Hurst Gene Combs born September 14, 1942 departed this life on Tuesday – March 24, 2026 being 83-years old.  Gene was born in Combs, Kentucky the son of the late James H. Combs and the late Christine Sellers Combs.  Other than his parents, Gene was also preceded in death by his sister, Joy Lamb and brother, Dennis Combs.

Gene was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the U.S. Army from 1965 – 1969, he was a teacher by occupation, teaching most of his years in Georgia.  Gene was a member of the Second Creek Church of God and served as a Gideon since August 3, 2000.

Hurst Gene Combs leaves the following relatives to cherish his memory: wife, Rebecca Faye Combs of Hazard, KY; son, Jeremy Combs of Brunswick, Georgia; daughter, B. Jill Salter & Kyle of Valdosta, Georgia; step-son, Merill David Collins & Paula of Bonnyman, KY; step-daughter, Christy Jones & Doug of London, KY; brother, Dorse Combs & Linda of Combs, KY; sisters, Teresa Sexton & Ferris of Combs and Connie Green of Atlanta, Georgia; also a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives & friends survive.

Memorial Services will be conducted on Sunday – March 29, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Merill David Collins officiating.  Visitation will be held on Sunday at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M.  The Interment will take place at a later date at the Combs Cemetery located at Combs, Kentucky.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hazard Gideon Camp – P.O. Box 1013 – Hazard, Kentucky 41702.
