Irene Joseph Carter was born on November 24,1944 and left this world to be with the Lord on April 28, 2026 at 81 years of age at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital. Irene was preceded in death by her husband Donald D Carter, brothers Arthur Joseph and Arnold Joseph, sister Nerva Woods, mother Bernice Wells Joseph and father Ora Joseph. Irene was survived by one sister Kathleen Moore, one brother Ferlin Joseph, three sons: Arthur (Nick) Ewing Carter, Donald D. Carter II (Andrea Carter), Joseph Todd Carter, and five grandchildren: Andrea Michelle Carter, Nicholas Ewing Carter, Daniel Lewis Carter, Aaron Tristan Carter, Susie D. Carter,  and a host of great grand children, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Irene Joseph was born on Lick Branch in the middle fork of Mason's (Maces) creek in Perry County. She attended nursing school in her youth and lived her married life in Jeff (now called Viper). Irene was dedicated to her family, her crafts, flowers and her gardens. Often working two jobs to support her family she continued to tend gardens in 3 locations and cooked and cleaned daily for her loved ones. In her twilight years she focused more on crafting and flowers. She was talented with a needle,  be it quilting, crocheting or cross-stitching. She would often bless the tellers at the bank or the nurses at the doctor's office with little treasures that she made and gifted them from the love in her heart.

While Irene was sick the last few months of her life,  her final days were made as comfortable as possible by the tireless efforts of family members filling the roles of caregiver, nurse, sitter and emotional support. Those who were there daily include Kathleen Moore-sister, Hank Woods-nephew, her sons and her friend Beth Herald. However so many other family members helped when needed by bringing food, running errands and praying. Due to their efforts she passed in peace among her family to the hands of our Lord Jesus Christ and rests with the Father in a place with no pain, sorrow or want.
