Obituary

James Elmer Madden born June 16, 1958 was a devoted father, cherished grandfather, and a faithful servant of God, who went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday – February 25, 2026 at the age of 67, surrounded by his loving family.

James dedicated his life to loving his family and serving his community.  As a pastor for over 40-years, he faithfully led his congregation, preaching God's Word with conviction, compassion, and unwavering faith.  He was the founding Pastor of Living Waters Church, Frontline Ministries, and a current member of the Christopher Church of God.  His ministry was not just a calling, but a way of life.  He led by example, offering wisdom, comfort, encouragement, and his well-known sense of humor.

Above all, he was a family man.  He was a steady presence, a source of strength, and a voice of prayer over his children and grandchildren.  His love for them was evident in everything he did – from quiet conversations and shared laughter, to heartfelt prayers spoken over each of their lives.  His grandchildren will forever remember his warm hugs, gentle guidance, and the way his eyes lit up when they walked into the room.

James leaves behind a legacy of faith, integrity, and unconditional love.  He is survived by his loving wife of 49-years, Bea Madden; two daughters: Jaime Porter & Derrick of Centerville, OH and Kristen Hurt & Lonnie of Hazard, KY; son: James Daniel Madden & June of Hazard, KY; grandchildren: Jaxson, Aleah, Keaton, Aubree, Isaac, Kayah, and Livy "spooky".   His dogs, Roxie and Izzie. Plus many dear friends and extended family whose lives were forever changed by knowing him.

Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace and hearing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Visitation will be held on Friday – February 27, 2026 at Frontline Ministries – 152 Skyview Lane – Hazard, Kentucky 41701 from 6:00 – 9:00 P.M.  A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Saturday – February 28, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Frontline Ministries with Larry Joseph officiating.  The Interment will follow in the Rob & Emily Jane Lewis Family Cemetery located at Yeaddiss, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Christopher Church of God – P.O. Box 2393 – Hazard, Kentucky 41702.

His faith was his anchor, his family his pride, and his legacy will live on in every life he touched.

"The first 5 minutes in heaven will offset a lifetime of hardship" – James Madden
