Joyce Smith born March 19, 1944 departed this life on Sunday – May 24, 2026 being 82 years old.  Joyce was born in Hazard, Kentucky the daughter of the late Carl Beverly and the late Ann Shepherd Beverly.  Other than her parents, Joyce was also preceded in death by her husbands, J.M. Smith and Lee Hurt; sons, Kenneth Hurt and Michael Joe Smith; Brothers, Richard Lee Beverly and Carl "Bud" Beverly, Jr.

Joyce was a retired secretary for Hazard High School, where she worked many years, she was a member of the First Creek Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for several years.  Joyce was a special caregiver throughout her life, she cared for both her husbands faithfully, as well as her children and family whom she loved, and embraced her role as mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren.

Joyce Smith leaves the following relatives to cherish her memory: two sons, Norman Hurt & Andrea of Louisville, KY and Barrett Smith of Hazard, KY; daughter, Lisa Conn & Steve of Richmond, KY; sister, Brenda Bryant of Hazard, KY; brothers, Harold Beverly of Cynthiana, KY and Darrell Beverly & Vicky of Dwarf, KY; grandsons, Connor Hurt & Kelsey of Georgetown, KY and Evan Hurt & fiancé Rose of Lexington, KY; great-granddaughter, Embry Hurt; also a host of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends survive.

Visitation will be held for Joyce Smith on Wednesday – May 27, 2026 at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home from 6:00 – 9:00 P.M.  Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday – May 28, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Tommy Fields officiating.  The Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery located at Lost Creek, Kentucky.
