Nannie Fay Melton Smith

Nannie Fay Melton Smith, "Granny", 85, of Hazard, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026. She was born in Hazard, Kentucky, and was a devoted woman of faith who shared her love for God and the Church of Christ with her family.

Fay was a strong and beautiful soul whose love, faith, and presence touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a woman who stood by her family no matter the cost. She loved deeply, protected fiercely, and remained by the side of the people she loved through life’s joys and hardships. Her family was one of her greatest treasures, and the love she gave them will continue through the generations.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Andy Melton; grandchildren, Amy Wilder (Eric), Tamara Asher (Brent), Ashley Cory (Chris), Kristian Melton, and Daniel Melton, Joshua Melton, Wallace Melton III; and her great-grandchildren, Carley Johnson, Carter Logan, Cadence Hall, Callie Melton, Jacoby Wilder, Grayson Melton, Jakob Melton, Eliza Cory, Lucia Cory, Cecilia Cory, and Jude Cory.

She was preceded in death by her husband and father of children, Wallace Melton; second husband, William Smith; and her son, Wallace Melton Jr.

Fay will be remembered for her strength, her beautiful spirit, her unwavering faith, and the unconditional love she gave to her family. Though her earthly presence is gone, the lessons she taught, the love she shared, and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of her family forever.

Visitation for Nannie Fay Melton Smith will be held on Tuesday – September 29, 2026 at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home from 11:00 A.M. till 1:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday- September 29, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home. The Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery located at Hazard, Kentucky.
