Sammy Wayne Walls passed away on the morning of Thursday, September 14, 2023, at UK's Chandler Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

Sammy the firstborn child of Hazel Napier Walls, first drew breath on June 9, 1947, in Hazard, Kentucky, making his stay on earth 76 years, 3 months, and 5 days. He expressed faith in God, and for many of those years, was a member of the Petry Memorial Baptist Church in Hazard.

Included among those left to mourn Sammy's passing are the following:

his loving wife of nearly 48 years, Nancy Elam Walls (Sammy and Nancy wed September 20, 1975.)

two children, daughter, Samantha Joyce Walls Roberts, son, Richard Benjamin Walls

grandchildren, Lauryn Roberts, Jacoby Benjamin Walls, and Eliana Johana Walls

sister Vickie Walls Colwell (Donald)

beloved nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Family members preceding Sammy in death include Sammy's mother, Hazel Napier Walls, and the following sisters.

Bobbie Ann Walls Deaton (Junior)

Eva Jean Walls Smith (Shelby)

Patricia Joyce Walls

And one brother, Michael Walls (Tammy)

Sammy loved friends and family and was totally devoted to his grandchildren, treasuring the time he spent with them. An ardent sports fan, Sammy was a follower of UK basketball and football, the Cincinnati Reds, and Bengals football. He loved fishing, had a fascination with firearms, and spent many enjoyable hours discussing all the above on the phone with his son, Richard Ben.

Funeral Services for Sammy Wayne Walls will be conducted on Monday September 18, 2023 at 5:00 P.M. at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie "Butch" Pennington officiating. The Interment will follow in the Burton Hill Cemetery located in Letcher County, Kentucky. The Visitation will be at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home on Monday from 3:00 till 5:00 P.M.
