South Arnett Deaton, born July 19, 1938 departed this life on Wednesday July 9th, 2025 at the Greg and Noreen Hospice Center in Hazard, Kentucky being 86-years old.  Arnett was born in Bonnyman, Kentucky, the son of the late Daniel Deaton and the late Pruda Engle Deaton.  Other than his parents, Arnett also preceded in death by his wife Pauletta Deaton; son, Michael Deaton; five brothers, Virgle Deaton, Shafter Deaton, Sim Huggins, Vernon Deaton, James Deaton; three sisters, Pauline Wooton, Virgil Combs, and Louella Combs.

Arnett was a dedicated coal miner for over 40 years, a former deputy sheriff, and an avid deer hunter. Known for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to his family, he cherished his children, grandchildren, and extended family. South enjoyed sharing stories of his mining days and hunting adventures. His love for the outdoors and his family left a lasting legacy among those who knew & loved him.

South Arnett Deaton leaves the following relatives to cherish his memory: daughter, Sheryl Abner and Jeremy; sisters, Peggy Clark, Betty Clepper; grandchildren, Kaeley Paige Deaton, Jasey Mika-lynn Abner, Journey Monroe Abner; one great grandchild, Mason Verge.

Visitation will be on Saturday -July 12th, 2025, from 11:00 A.M.to 1:00 P.M. at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home. Funeral Services on Saturday-July 12th, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. with AJ Miller and George Abner Officiating.  Interment will follow at Deaton-Engle Cemetery in Bonnyman, Kentucky.
