Wooton
Mar 4, 1949 — Apr 15, 2025
Veda Combs Wooton, age 76, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, in the comfort of her cherished home in Buckhorn, Kentucky. Born on March 4, 1949, she was the beloved daughter of the late Chester and Audrey Combs of Buckhorn.
Veda was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and a beloved sister and friend. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dennis Patrick "Pat" Wooton, with whom she shared 47 wonderful years of marriage. She also joins in rest her parents, along with her seven brothers: Elmer, Clyde, Lester, Clinton, Mike, J.C., and Wayne, and her three sisters: Ada, Gladys, and Betty, and great-grandchild, Zaydee Stokely; all of whom she loved dearly and carried in her heart throughout her life.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength through her children: daughter Cindy Ra Wooton and son Dennis Patrick Wooton II (Danielle Herald). Known affectionately as "Mammy," Veda found immense joy in her role as grandmother to Dr. Mikka Trent (Alex Stokely), Kelsey Ra Fields (James Kobolak), and Andi Reagyn Wooton, and as great-grandmother to Jaiden Patrick Fields, Adyson Hall, Paislee Hall, and Julia Kobolak.
Veda is also survived by her two brothers, Roland Combs (Peggy)of Hamilton, OH, and Sherman Combs (Rosie) of Cynthiana, KY. She leaves behind a large and loving extended family of nieces, nephews, and treasured friends. Among them are her special nieces Kathy Sandlin Burns, Leila Sandlin Smith (Robert D.), and Danielle Sandlin Perkins (Blair), along with her lifelong best friend Gladys Cain. Each of them held a deeply cherished place in her heart.
A proud graduate of Buckhorn School, Class of 1967, Veda continued her education at Pikeville College where she studied Health and Physical Education as well as Psychology. She dedicated her career to service and community wellness, working as an Environmentalist for the Kentucky River District Health Department until her retirement in 2008.
Veda lived a life of quiet grace, a generous spirit, and enduring faith. She will be remembered not only for her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love for her family and community, but also for her quick wit and sharp sense of humor that could light up any room. Her laughter was a comfort, her stories unforgettable, and her ability to find humor in everyday moments was a gift to all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched—with love, laughter, and deep admiration.
